Famous Architects and Builders Still Inspire

There are many famous architects and builders who may or may not be household names but their visual creativity and functional designs continue to inspire generations of custom home builders. Here are a few of those notable visionaries.
Antoni Gaudi, 1852-1926 – Gaudí spent his career in Barcelona, Spain where he created all of his architectural wonders. The most famous was started in 1883. The ornate cathedral known as La Sagrada Familia, is still under construction today! His unusual style was a mix of Baroque, Gothic, Moorish, and Victorian that frequently featured ornamental tile-work. His designs were often inspired by what he discovered in nature. Experts say that his designs have had a tremendous impact on generations of modernists.
Joseph Eichler ,1900-1974 – This real estate developer had a passion for practical home building with small windows facing the street and massive windows facing backyard spaces; post and beam construction; center courtyard and roofed atrium.
He often built appealing condensed entry courts; open carports and clean lines – all at more affordable pricing. You can see Frank Lloyd Wright’s influence is much of his work. Frank Lloyd Wright, 1867-1959 – This Wisconsin native, is likely the most memorable name in North American home design. Wright revolutionized 20th-century architect, and his midwestern upbringing is said to have played a crucial role in shaping his concepts. Wright employed crisp geometries with a focus on horizontal planes.
One of his most famous buildings, Falling Water (a residence in Bear Run, PA) features a series of stacked rectangular balconies that visually float over the natural waterfall incorporated literally into the house.
Wright’s homes and his designs are part of any of today’s architect education. This forward thinking visionary created new ways of viewing our living spaces and turned our homes into works of art.
